We all know the new, “Built Ford Tough” Rangers, and there’s only one word to describe it – BEASTLY. With their high ground clearance, and the pulling power of a Truck, these beasts are powerful, and good looking. But can Ford top this?
Well, Ford has announced the arrival of the new, redesigned line of Ford Rangers – and they sure have delivered something beautiful!
The new Ford Ranger represents the epitome of modernity in its segment. It will be sportier, sleeker, stylish and with improved performance.
A more rugged and aggressive look is expected on the exterior with high resistant steel and aluminium dominating the exterior panels. Ford claims a weight reduction and it will be slightly longer and wider than its predecessor. The bakkie comes with a newly designed grille and bumpers and has an improved chassis. the headlight and tail lights will be sharper and sport LED lights.
Ford claims the new Ranger will undergo a comprehensive redesign in the interior. It will be more luxurious, spacious and comfortable – as if it could get any better? Ford claims it will have wireless phone charging capabilities, bluetooth, satnav, a redesigned infotainment system, air conditioning, traffic control features and a climate control system. Ford also ensures that it will come with a reverse camera as well.
Three engine options will be be available for the redesigned Ford Ranger. The first option is a powerful five cylinder 3.2 liter TDCi engine that pushes out 197 hp. Maximum torque of this engine is 470 Nm. By applying new technologies in recirculation of exhaust gases, fuel consumption is reduced by 18 percent and this a huge help for us South Africans and the country’s soaring fuel prices.
Another option is the new diesel TDCi Duratorq 2.2 liter engine with 158 hp and 385Nm of torque. For which Ford has also increased fuel efficiency by 22 percent.
The third is a petrol 2.5 liter Duratec engine with direct injection. This power train will produce 163 hp and given 225 Nm of torque.
There are rumors of a hybrid version of the new Ranger 2016 with Turbocharged 2.3 liter Ecoboost engine with direct injection. The engine will be coupled with electric motors and starters which will give the Ranger excellent fuel consumption, ecological characteristics and high performance. All variants of the Ford Ranger 2016 will be available with Start / Stop technology.The 2016 Ford Ranger will be a 4 wheel drive.
